University of Louisville Hospital and Jewish Hospital Host the Legacy of Life 5K Run/Walk September 13
Louisville, Ky. (September 4, 2014) – University of Louisville and Jewish Hospitals, part of KentuckyOne Health, will host the annual Legacy of Life 5K run/walk on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 9 a.m. to help raise awareness for organ, tissue and eye donation in our community.
The event brings together organ donor families, organ recipients, healthcare providers, and donation supporters. They will unite in a collaborative effort to raise awareness for organ, tissue and eye donation. The timed race will be held at Iroquois Park, beginning near the Amphitheater and continue around Rundill Road.
University of Louisville Hospital has a long-time commitment to its patients and families of organ donors. Today, there are more than 1,000 individuals in Kentucky on the waiting list to receive a life-saving organ. Many more have an opportunity to have an improved quality of life as a result of tissue or eye donation..
“This event represents an incredible celebration of life and of hope that raises funds to honor the memory and celebrate the lives of organ donors,” said Ken Marshall, president of University of Louisville Hospital.
The race participation fee is a minimum donation of $25 and includes a free t-shirt. Proceeds from the event assist in establishing a donor memorial to honor life-saving heroes, provide community outreach and continuing education for our caregivers.
